Charter school gets aid for Arabic program

Independence Charter School has received a federal grant of nearly
$600,000 that will allow the Center City school to significantly
expand a pilot introductory Arabic program. School officials said they
would use the funds from the U.S. Department of Education's Foreign
Language Assistance Program to expand the Arabic program to include
all students in sixth through eighth grades and provide more
opportunities for students to learn about the language and Arab
culture. The school, which has been recognized for its international
education emphasis, offers two Spanish programs, including an
