Description
The rapid globalization of television and new media and the resultant
impact of Western culture on Indian media has created a new model of
hybridisation. One outcome of this media marriage is the development
of Hinglish, a mixture of English - the language of international
media - and Hindi, the most widely used language in India. This
presentation will examine the rise of Hinglish as a new language in
the media and discuss its implications for other languages in India as
well as well of those of Indian diaspora.
Venue : Room G37 (Senate House, Ground Floor)
