German Influence on the Grammar of Slavic Languages

Date: 14-Oct-2011 - 15-Oct-2011
Location: Cottbus, Germany
Contact Person: Hauke Bartels
Meeting Email: < click here to access email >

Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics; Sociolinguistics

Language Family(ies): Slavic Subgroup

Call Deadline: 31-Dec-2010

Meeting Description:

The main aim of the conference is to identify similar contact-induced
language changes in system and usage of different Slavic languages
that are or have been in more or less intensive contact with German.
Is it possible to discover typical stimuli for contact phenomena under
certain circumstances? What kind of similar or different effects can
be observed?

Papers that point at the historical and/or sociolinguistic
circumstances of language contact between German and Slavic languages
are possible, too.

The Sorbian institute (Serbski institut, Bautzen/Budyšyn &
Cottbus/Chóśebuz, Germany) invites submissions for papers to be
presented at a conference on German-Slavic language contact in the
field of grammar.

Conference languages are all Slavic languages, English and German.

Abstracts (up to 300 words) should be submitted via e-mail together
with short information about the author. The presentations will be
allocated a 30-minute slot each, to include a 5-10 minute discussion.

You will be notified of the status of your submission by end of January.

Conference organizers: Hauke Bartels, Sonja Wölke
Please contact the organizers with any questions or concerns.
