Between Tradition and Change: The Future of English in the Light of
Globalization, Transculturalism, and Internationalization.
The University of Southern Denmark, Kolding - October 11-12, 2011
This conference will address English Studies as a discipline in
transition and reflect on where it has been and where it is going.
With the meteoric rise of English globally, the language is studied
and used by as many as 2 billion speakers, and English Studies
departments now teach such varied subjects as communications,
discourse and rhetoric, language, literature, and film representing
English language usage and texts across the globe. The study of
classical English texts might be declining, but that slack has been
taken up by other areas and endeavors, creating numerous challenges
and opportunities.
This conference at The University of Southern Denmark will explore
these issues in five sessions:
Tradition and Its Discontents
Language, Culture, and Discourse
The Globalization of English
Internationalization and Learning
Finding Common Ground
Invitation to submit proposals for individual papers
