Kyrgyz capital approves structure of draft concept for ethnic
development and consolidation of society
03/03-2011 14:24, Bishkek – 24.kg news agency , by Daniyar KARIMOV
Kyrgyzstan’s capital approved the structure of the draft Concept of
ethnic development and consolidation of society. The document was
approved at the first meeting of the working group preparing the
concept. It is assumed that the preliminary draft will be ready before
the end of March. The concept determines main directions of
integration policy in Kyrgyzstan in the areas of civil and political
participation, social integration, language policy, multicultural,
multilingual education, culture and media, management, inter-ethnic
relations at the community level.
The idea of the concept emerged after the events in southern
Kyrgyzstan. Their effects, according to participants, may have
long-term period. Kyrgyz and Uzbek communities live separately and do
not trust each other. Besides, “the elite and some politicians openly
use ethnicity as a basis for political mobilization”.
The republic's authorities expect that the concept becomes the basis
for public policy “consolidation of society and diversity management”.
In the future, the document will lead to the fact that citizens will
know the state language, share common values and participate in the
economic, social, political and cultural life on equal rights.
