Do Language Policy List members know of any collections of census questions about language - whether online, in a survey article / chapter, or anywhere else? Or do you have a collection of such things yourselves that you would be willing to let others see?

Some colleagues (Françoise Gadet, U. Paris 10 - La Défense, and Jacques Durand, U. Toulouse II - Le Mirail) wish to make a collection of such questions, with a view to compiling a refined / systematic questionnaire on languages spoken and language attitudes, and eventually using it in an extremely large-scale operation in the UK and France. Pointers to articles or chapters where appropriate and effective language survey methodologies are considered would also be very useful.

I'd be very grateful if you would send any suggestions on to me and the list, and I will compile them and send them to Françoise and Jacques. I may not be around for much of the next week to respond to any discussion, but I will see things eventually! Many thanks.

Damien
