Fanagalo, the pidgin based on Zulu and English, is spoken in a very specialized environment: it is considered the lingua franca of mines in South Africa. Despite the fact that it is spoken and embraced by 'hundreds of thousands of people' that comprise 36% of the mining workforce, it is already facing opposition from management that wants to enforce English or Xhosa as the language of communication.
