*October 22-23, 2012 *

Dear James,

This year’s ILI Symposium will be on October 22-23, 2012 at the Hard Rock
Hotel & Casino at the Isleta Pueblo in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The theme
is *“Overcoming Challenges in Native Language Work”. *

We will share solutions to tough issues that surround Native language
revitalization work, whether family, community or school-based. These
age-old challenges continue to be roadblocks in our language efforts:

How do we build community support and involvement for our language
initiatives?
Does politics interfere in our language efforts?
Are we evaluating our language programs for their effectiveness?
Are we flexible enough to transition to more effective language acquisition
methods if we are not meeting our goals?
How do we overcome multigenerational trauma influenced by historic events
so we can move forward?
How do we motivate our youth to use our Native language?
How important is money for effective language programs?
Written form of oral language: Benefits and Challenges?

Presenters at ILIS 2012 will address these challenge questions and share
with us specific success stories and strategies. Presentation topics and
presenter names will be announced in our next e-Newsletter.
