Longview School Board to discuss world language policy

By The Daily News | Posted: Saturday, February 25, 2012 8:05 pm | (2) Comments

The Longview School Board will vote to adopt changes in some district
policies and procedures, including credit for proficiency in world
languages, at its meeting Monday night.

During discussion of the world language policy at the Feb. 13 meeting,
Dana Jones, executive director of leadership and learning, told the
board there are eight identified languages spoken in the homes of
district students. Students who seek credit for academic proficiency
in foreign languages could be tested at Lower Columbia College,
Portland State University or another approved site and bring the test
results to the high school counseling office to determine where the
student qualifies in several levels of proficiency.

Also at the meeting, Broadway Preschool Principal Mary Carr-Wilt will
present the school’s action plan. The board meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday
in the district board room, 28th Avenue and Lilac Street.
