President Obama impresses with his sign language
By Fahima Haque

At a time where President Obama is dodging criticism left and right
for his presidential choices, he has a fan in Stephon, the 26-year-old
Prince George’s Community college student who had a little chat with
Obama in sign language.

Stephon, who was born deaf, was at an energy policy event where Obama
was speaking last week. Once he got close enough to the president, he
shook his hands and signed, “I am proud of you.” Not missing a beat,
the president signed back, “Thank you.” The White House also tweeted
the moment.

Elated from the experience, Stephon created a video blog about it,
calling the moment unforgettable. He also transcribed his signing in
the video:

After signing with Stephon, a deaf woman in the crowd said she loved
him and Obama smiled.

“When I shook his hand it did not feel like he was superior to me. He
is just a humble man,” Stephon said in his video.
