It is my joy to present to you the latest issue of Langscape: Breaking the
Language Barrier - a Biocultural Approach to Documenting Oral Literature.

This issue represents the next stage of Langscape’s growth towards a
biocultural diversity magazine. First of all, it is a great honour to have
Dr. George Appell, from the Firebird Foundation for Anthropological
Reasearch as our guest editor for this issue of Langscape. Secondly, the
momentum has been building with expanding interest and submissions are
skyrocketing, we have doubled in size: both in content and readership! It
has been a pleasure to work with many of you in creating this issue, and
your feedback has been absolutely fabulous.

The issue is set in two parts. In part one, we present articles and stories
submitted by Terralingua members from Africa, Mexico, the Caribbean, the
Pacific and Canada. Part two, is based on a case study by Dr. Appell on the
methods he has developed over 50 years in documenting oral literature.

Terralingua’s Langscape is intended to be an educational resource. Whether
a student or professor, an indigenous knowledge keeper, or concerned
citizen: Langscape provides the in depth stories that are invaluable
to make a convincing case for the preservation of biocultural diversity.

Langscape gives voice, by real world examples, to the relationships between
linguistic, cultural and biodiveristy, and explores its impacts for human
well-being in all its dimensions: economic, ecological, health, and the
teachings of the ancestors.

Through this publication we challenge preconceptions about language and
cultural diversity. We breathe life into biocultural diversity, showing
their importance to our economic and ecological and ethical future.
