Language Variation and Change (LVC) in Postcolonial Contexts

The International Conference on Language Variation and Change in Postcolonial Contexts will be held on 18-19 April 2013 at the University of Salerno, Italy.

The LVC2013 conference aims:

- to create a space for the discussion of new and ongoing research and projects on post-colonial language variation.
- to encourage interactions between researchers with different research perspectives and methodologies.

Call for Papers:

Submissions are invited for oral presentations on the topics described below. Contributions should focus on results from completed as well as ongoing research, with an emphasis on current approaches, methods, and perspectives, whether descriptive, theoretical, sociolinguistic or corpus-based.
 
Topics:

We invite the submission of papers on original and unpublished studies on language variation and change, including, but not limited to:

- Language contact issues and their impact on language change
- All aspects of language variation and change in New Varieties of English
- Synchronic/diachronic analyses/perspectives in the domain of LVC
- Specific issues related to the annotation of corpora for LVC research
- Interdisciplinary studies covering different registers and genres in postcolonial contexts

Submissions:

Oral presentations will be in the form of 20 minute papers with 5 minutes for questions. Reviewing of abstracts will be double-blind. Therefore, the abstract must not include the authors' names and affiliations. Abstracts of no more than 300 words can be submitted until 1 December 2012 and sent as a word attachment to both lvc2013 at unisa.it and rcalabrese at unisa.it.

Abstract Checklist:

- Title in bold on all copies
- Name, affiliation, address, telephone and email address on separate first page of the electronic copy
- Text: 300 words maximum
- Format: Single spaced, Times New Roman 12, justified

Deadline for paper submission: 1 December 2012
Notification of acceptance: 15 January 2013
Registration: from 1 September 2012 to 16 January 2013
Conference: 18-19 April 2013
