English may become regional language in Ukraine

MP Hennadiy Moskal registered in the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on
amendments to Article 7 of the law of Ukraine on principles of
national language policy on the comprehensive development of the
English language.

The corresponding document was registered on September 28. The
document provides for including list English into the list of regional
languages. In particular, Moskal said that according to the law on
principles of national language policy, "the state shall promote the
development of multi-language environment, studying languages of
international communication, especially those that are the official
languages of the United Nations, UNESCO and other international
organizations".

Among the six official UN languages - Arabic, English, Spanish,
Chinese, Russian and French. The most widespread ones in Ukraine are
Russian and English.
