ND Shiva Kumar, TNN Feb 11, 2013, 08.23PM IST

BIJAPUR: The participants at the 79th All India Kannada Sahitya
Sammelan demanded the union government to come out with a national
language policy and national uniform education policy, giving primacy
to regional languages and weed out disparities in education.

Speaking at the valedictory of the three-day literary event, noted
scholar and former vice-chancellor of Hampi University Dr M M Kalburgi
urged the state government to exert pressure on the Centre to announce
the national language policy. Chairman of Kannada Development
Authority Mukhyamantri Chandru said the need of the hour is to bring
uniformity in education. The Centre should come out with a national
policy and make mother-tongue a compulsory medium of instruction at
the primary level,'' he said.
