I hope you won't think this intervention too 'commercial' but I thought 
interested members of the list might like to know that an English 
translation of Humboldt's 'On Language' is available in the Cambridge 
Texts in the History of Philosophy series at £24.99 (paperback), ISBN 
9780521667722.

The original German text, Über die Verschiedenheit des menschlichen 
Sprachbaues, reprinted from the 1836 Berlin first edition,  is available 
in paperback in the Cambridge Library Collection series of reissues at 
£32, ISBN 9781108006460, and if anybody happens to be interested in 
Humboldt's monumental study of the Kawi language, in German, that too has 
been digitised and reissued by Cambridge ISBN 9781108031561 (über die 
Kawi-Sprache, 1836?9), though it will set you back £107 for 3 volumes 
totalling 2000+ pages.  Please visit www.cambridge.org for full details if
