The Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Windsor<http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/12pdf/12-307_6j37.pdf> is a huge win for supporters of marriage equality, effectively doubling<http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/06/26/same-sex-marriage-availability-set-to-double-in-one-year-span/?ref=californiasproposition8samesexmarriage&_r=1> the availability of same-sex marriage in the United States. Supporters of lexicography may celebrate as well, because in Windsor the Court struck down the definition of marriage in the Defense of Marriage Act<http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/1/7> (DOMA) without ever once saying, “The dictionary says . . . .”
