The Natrona County School District board of trustees on Monday night
advanced a proposed policy to support dual-language immersion programs.
The board sent the motion to its policy committee for public readings — the
next step before it becomes district policy, said Michelle
Wallace-Frank, executive
assistant to the superintendent.
The proposal would clarify the board's support for dual-language immersion
for all interested students in grades K-5. To start a new program, a school
must demonstrate strong parental support, consensus among the school that
the program is wanted, viable enrollment numbers and adequate available
resources.
The board passed another motion to allow Chinese immersion classes at
Paradise Valley

to
remain larger than the standard 18-student class. Students moving or
switching schools will be a factor as the program grows, the motion said.
Loading early grades with more students will help mitigate fluctuating
class sizes.
