 Professional Development Specialist

*CAL Classification: *Senior Technical Specialist
*Program Area: *K-12 ELLs and Content Area Instruction
*Hours Per Week: *35 hrs/wk (full time)
*Position Available: *Immediately
*DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:*

This position involves creating and delivering professional development
services (face to face and online) on a variety of topics including
literacy instruction in Spanish and English for students in transitional,
developmental, and dual language bilingual programs, and sheltered
instruction (using the CAL SIOP Model). The position also entails assisting
the professional development team in enhancing the content of CAL’s
professional development materials to work with various types of
professionals who teach linguistically and culturally diverse students.
Ability to travel approximately 50% of the year is a requirement.
*PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:*

   - Plan and facilitate face-to-face and online professional development
   tailored to the specific needs of schools and districts
   - Work with the PreK-12 ELL Professional Development Director and
   Associate Directors to update and enhance professional development content
   - Facilitate face to face professional development in Spanish
   - Create and proofread materials for use in professional development
   - Other duties as assigned

*Minimum Qualifications:*

   - Master’s degree and four years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s
   degree and eight years of relevant experience.

*Preferred Qualifications:*

*Education:* Master’s degree in linguistics, language, education, or
related discipline

*Experience:* Minimum of four years of teaching experience in literacy
instruction for English and Spanish learners, and in using sheltered
instruction principles (ideally using the SIOP Model). A demonstrated
commitment to working with underserved students is critical. Minimum of two
years of experience in developing and providing professional development to
teachers is also required.

Successful candidates will have experience in one or more of the following
areas:

   - Teaching in bilingual or dual language instructional settings
   - Teaching subject areas other than language development courses (e.g.
   elementary or secondary general education)

*Language Proficiency:* Ability to develop and deliver professional
development in both English and Spanish.

*Skills:* Candidates should have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word
and PowerPoint, and should have familiarity with creating and delivering
professional development courses for an online platform. A successful
candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills in
English and in Spanish.

*Other Qualifications:* The preferred candidate will be flexible,
well-organized, and attentive to detail. Must have strong interpersonal
skills and be able to work both collaboratively and independently in a
fast-paced team environment.
