*April 8, 2014* - The third annual *Linguistic Diversity and Language
Policy <https://educ.ucalgary.ca/ldlp/>* conference will focus on English
Language Learners in High School.

"In Alberta, adolescent English learners from immigrant backgrounds with
aspirations to attend university face challenges as they integrate
academically and socially in the school system," explains English as an
Additional Language Chair, Tom Ricento.

Ricento is pleased to bring Dr. Linda Harklau of the University of Georgia
to share her work on language and education

"Professor Harklau has conducted and published research on the nature of
these challenges and finds that more attention needs to be paid to school
sociocultural and policy contexts, and not just on English learning and
proficiency."

This year's conference will be held Monday, April 28 at the MacEwan
Conference and Event Centre. In addition to lectures and round tables
Harklau and Werklund School of Education doctoral students will lead a
workshop for local educators and policy makers on Tuesday, April 29. On
Wednesday, April 30, Professor Harklau will lead a seminar for graduate
students to share research methods she and others have developed and
implemented in various research sites in North America.

Spaces are still open for the conference, workshop and seminar. To
