Short term contract (2 month contract in 2 inputs in 2014), based in Port
Vila, Vanuatu
*The Program*
VESP is a program of support for key education initiatives being
implemented by the Ministry of Education. The program includes a strong
focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes in the early years of
primary education. VESP is supported by donor partners under a Joint
Partnership Arrangement between the Governments of Vanuatu, Australia and
New Zealand.
*The Position*
The Program is currently seeking applications for the position of *Language
Policy Implementation Specialist*to assist the Ministry of Education (MoE)
to develop a practical and sustainable plan for implementing its newly
developed language policy in Vanuatu schools. The Specialist will work with
MoE Senior Managers to:
· address potential ambiguities relating to the implementation of the
language policy;
· identify strategies to raise stakeholder and community understanding and
acceptance of the policy;
· assist the Language and Literacy Team to plan and conduct a national
language and literacy conference; and
· assist in developing quality criteria to review early years curriculum
materials to ensure they support implementation.
*The Person*
For success in this position, applicants will need to demonstrate relevant
qualifications and experience in the development, implementation and
advocacy of language education policies as well as current knowledge of
mother tongue/ bilingual teacher education research and methodologies for
developing countries. Experience mentoring and coaching professional
colleagues from different cultural backgrounds and an understanding of aid
effectiveness principles are required for success. Work experience in the
Pacific or another developing country is high desirable.
