: International Linguapax Award 2016 – call for candidates now open

<http://www.linguapax.org/archives/international-linguapax-award-2016-call-for-candidates-now-open>
Since it was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999, the *International Mother
Language Day* is observed worldwide on February 21st to promote awareness
of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. To commemorate
this annual observance, Linguapax calls the yearly *International Linguapax
Award* as a tribute to the outstanding action carried out by linguists,
researchers, professors or members of the civil society in favour of the
preservation of linguistic diversity, revitalization and reactivation of
linguistic communities and the promotion of multilingualism.
In previous editions, the award went to committed linguists and NGOs from
all continents such as Xavier Albó (Bolivia), Escola Valencia (Spain),
Ledikasyon pu Travayer (Mauritius), Jon Landaburu (Colombia), Ganesh Devy
(India), or the late Katerina Te Heikoko Mataira (New Zealand), Neville
Alexander (South Africa), Maurice Tadadjeu (Cameroo) and Joshua Fishman
(USA), among others.

We are pleased to announce that the 2016 call for candidates is now open
till *January 21st, 2016*.
