U.S.English Poll Shows Widespread Support for English as the Official
Language of West Virginia

  WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Jan 23, 2015) - U.S.English is pleased to
release the results of a new poll showing overwhelming support for English
as the official language of West Virginia.

This most recent language policy poll, conducted by Pulse Opinion Research,
found that 87 percent of West Virginia residents support legislation that
would declare English the official language of the Mountain State. This
support extends to 81 percent of Democrats, 85 percent of Independents and
97 percent of Republicans.

Furthermore, 93 percent of poll respondents indicated that English
proficiency is necessary for an immigrant residing in the state.

In response to the poll results, U.S. English Chairman Mauro E. Mujica
said, "As one of just 19 states without an official language policy, West
Virginia residents have now spoken loud and clear in support of the
unifying role of the English language. With state residents speaking more
than 80 different languages, recognizing English as the official language
of government will open the doors of communication and allow residents to
truly embrace their diversity. I urge all members of the West Virginia
State Legislature to hear the voice of their constituents and support
Official English legislation this year."

The survey of 1,000 likely voters in West Virginia was conducted on January
19-20, 2015 with a margin of error of +/- 3.0% and a 95% level of
confidence. Pulse Opinion Research, LLC is an independent public opinion
research firm using automated polling methodology and procedures licensed
