[lg policy] Paraguay: Guarani version of Firefox to debut

*ASUNCION, MAR 31 (EFE).* — Aguaratata, the Guarani version of
Mozilla’s Firefox
browser <http://news.co.cr/hot-alternate-web-browsers-for-android/3854/>,
will be unveiled in Paraguay next week at Asuncion National University, the
Language Policy Secretariat said Thursday.

Aguaratata Firefox in Guarani took two years to develop and will be
presented to the public on Monday.

The Aguaratata browser will be an important tool for speakers of Guaranin
this South American country, the secretariat said.

The Aguaratata project, which has the support of Mozilla International

and Mozilla Paraguay, has a vocabulary of 45,000 words.

Some 57 percent of Paraguay’s nearly 7 million people, according to the
census, speak only Guarani.

Guarani, the official language in Paraguay along with Spanish, is also
spoken in some areas of southern Brazil and northern Argentina. EFE
