Kyrgyz Language Added To Google Translate

BISHKEK -- Google has added the Kyrgyz language to its online translation system.

Kyrgyz-language expert Chorobek Saadanbek, who has been cooperating with Google on the project, told RFE/RL on February 18 that instantaneous translation from Kyrgyz -- and vice-versa -- is now available on computers and mobile devices.

Since 2011, a team of Kyrgyz linguists have worked on the project that had been also supported financially by the Kyrgyz government, Saadanbek said.

In December 2014, Google announced the addition of three other Central Asian languages -- Kazakh, Tajik, and Uzbek -- to Google Translate.

The Pashto language, spoken in Pakistan and Afghanistan, was also added to Google Translate, which now includes more than 100 languages.
