CAPE TOWN - Stellenbosch University's
<http://ewn.co.za/Topic/University-of-Stellenbosch> Student Representative
Council (SRC) says a diverse committee is needed to drive transformation on
campus.
On Tuesday, the convocation will elect a new executive committee.
The convocation is a statutory body, made up of alumni members, and is one
of the most influential bodies at the institution.
The SRC's James de Villiers says the current executive committee mainly
consist of people who are against transformation at the campus.
“The SRC is in support of a convocation that finally represents the new
South Africa. Currently, convocations only represent white men so, firstly,
there needs to be women represented on this body and secondly, there needs
to be people of colour on this body to ensure that we have the best
possible voice guiding this university to our next milestone.”
