JOHANNESBURG – AfriForum and Solidarity are heading to Bloemfontein High
Court on Monday over the University of the Free State’s language policy for
2017.

The organisation is challenging the university’s decision to drop Afrikaans
as a medium of instruction.

Three months ago its council agreed that English will be the primary
language used.

AfriForum believes the institution is depriving Afrikaans-speaking students

to be educated in their mother tongue.

Language policies have recently become the bone of contention in several
institutions of higher learning in the country.
