UFS ready to defend new language policyThe University of the Free State
says it is ready to defend its new language policy. This comes after
AfriForum and Solidarity threatened to challenge the matter in court.

The Freedom Front Plus has also urged Afrikaans speaking parents and
students to withhold fee payments.

This comes after the university council resolved that as from next year the
language of instruction and administration would be English.

Vice Chancellor Professor Jonathan Jansen says all the stakeholders were
consulted before the decision was made.

“We have had of the most comprehensive processes for the review of language
policy over several months in every step of the way. We checked on if is
this process is correct, is it fair, is it legal is it Constitutional?
Nothing happened in the process that put the university at risk of a
challenge from anywhere."
