FIGURES have been released which show that the number of Welsh speakers in
some of Ceredigion's public institutions has declined since last year.

Stats show that only 51 per cent of Ceredigion Council employees can speak
Welsh, compared to 58 per cent in 2015. The number of Welsh speakers at
Hywel Dda University Health Board has also fallen from 29 per cent to 27
per cent, and from 53 per cent to 45 per cent at Dyfed-Powys Police.

These figures are in spite of Ceredigion Council launching a language
strategy, which was prepared by the Ceredigion Local Service Board
Bilingual Future Executive Group, which aims to "promote and encourage the
wider use of Welsh in all aspects of the social and economic life of
Ceredigion".
