NEW DELHI: The chairperson of Central Board of Secondary Education
<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Central-Board-of-Secondary-Education>
(CBSE), on Wednesday, said there was "no change in its language policy" to
make Hindi language compulsory till class X in CBSE
<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/CBSE> schools.

CBSE chairperson RK Chaturvedi
<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/RK-Chaturvedi> said: "I am not
aware of the committee's report. And so far there is no change in the
language policy of the Board. Schools will continue to follow what they
have been following so far. The board
<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/board> has asked for the report
to study it."

The statement followed reports of 'in-principle' approval to a
parliamentary committee's recommendations, which also include making study
of Hindi compulsory till Class X.

The Board follows a three-language formula till class VIII and two-language
formula till class X with English as the mandatory language. In classes IX
and X, students of CBSE schools either opt for a foreign language or Hindi
or Sanskrit along with mandatory English.

CBSE had recently proposed to the ministry of human resource development to
implement the three-language formula till Class X but there was no
recommendation to make the study of any language compulsory.
