Call for papers

(Abstract deadline: Friday 16 June 2017)

Following on from the inaugural UKLPAB conference in 2016, the theme of this year’s
meeting will be devolution and the extent of policy variation post-Brexit. What will
be the significance of Brexit for language policies adopted by UK nations?

Potential themes could include:

  * Will Brexit be significant for strategies and policies adopted by UK nations to
promote minority languages and signed languages?
  * Given that education is devolved, how might the teaching of modern foreign
languages be approached differently across the UK?
  * How might overarching macro-economic changes brought about by Brexit influence
language policies, including those of broadcasters and health bodies?

Moreover, we hope to include all researchers interested in UK language policy, to
consider the impact of Brexit on the field.

UKLPAB took place last year in England, and this year will take place in Wales. In
addition to our call for papers, we invite applications to host next year’s UKLPAB in
another of the UK nations.

The event is free. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Cais am bapurau

(Dyddiad cau: Dydd Gwener 16 Mehefin, 2017)

Yn dilyn cynhadledd gyntaf UKPLAB yn 2016, thema cyfarfod eleni fydd datganoli a
graddau amrywiadau polisi wedi ymadael â’r Undeb Ewropeaidd. Beth fydd arwyddocâd
Brexit i bolisiau iaith cenhedloedd y DU?

Ymysg y themau i’w hymchwilio mae’r canlynol:

  * A fydd Brexit yn cael effaith arwyddocaol ar strategaethau a pholisiau
cenhedloedd y DU i hyrwyddo ieithoedd lleiafrifol?
  * Gan fod addysg wedi ei ddatganoli, allai addysgu ieithoedd tramor modern gael ei
ystyried mewn ffyrdd wahanol ar draws y DU?
  * Beth yw’r posibiliadau o ran dylanwad newidiadau macro-economaidd eang yn sgil
Brexit ar bolisiau iaith, yn cynnwys polisiau cyrff cyhoeddus ar lefelau gwahanol
o lywodraeth, cyrff iechyd a darlledwyr?

O fewn y rhychwant eang hwn, gobeithiwn gynnwys ymchwilwyr sydd â diddordeb mewn
polisiau iaith o fewn y DU i ystyried effaith Brexit ar y maes.

Cynhaliwyd UKLPAB y llynedd yn Lloegr gan gael ei gynnal yn Aberystwyth eleni. Yn
ychwanegol at y cais am bapurau, rydym yn gwahodd ceisiadau i fod yn lleoliad ar
gyfer UKLPAB mewn rhan arall o’r DU flwyddyn nesaf.

Mae’r digwyddiad yn rhad ac am ddim. Darperir lluniaeth am ddim yn y digwyddiad hwn.

Thanks / Diolch,
Dave
