Laurie Roberts: The Arizona House has passed a bill that would make
insurance contracts written in languages other than English worthless in a
legal dispute.

Attention: all non-English speakers or those who understand the language
but have trouble reading it:

Does the Arizona Legislature has a deal for you.

Our leaders want to pave the way so that more insurance companies will
offer contracts in Spanish and other languages.
Here's the catch

There is just one teeeeeeny, tiiiiiny catch:

House Bill 2083

that in the event of a dispute, the English version of the contract is the
only one that counts.

The one in Spanish that you read and sign – the one you are depending upon
to cover you and your family in the event of an accident or illness or
death?

Not worth the paper it’s printed on.
Insurance policy worthless in dispute

Rep. David Livingston, R-Peoria and the bill’s sponsor, says it’s all about
offering consumers more choices.

“More policies will be translated into multiple languages for the benefit
of consumers,” he recently told the House Banking and Insurance Committee.

Really, it’s about protecting big insurance companies.
