Rating survey]
More than half of Ukrainians (61%) believe that the Ukrainian language
should be the only state language, while the Russian language should be
freely used in all spheres of life, according to a poll conducted by the
sociological group Rating.
According to the results of the poll released Thursday in Kyiv, 17% of
respondents believe that the Russian language should be granted official
status in certain regions and at the same time Ukrainian should retain
state status. .
Some 19% spoke for the possibility of the state status of both Ukrainian
and Russian languages. According to the survey, the largest number of
supporters of the provision of the Russian language with a certain status
is in southern and eastern areas of Ukraine. At the same time, even in
these regions, the number of those who favor the preservation of the status
quo of the state language policy is 40-45%.
The sociological survey was conducted by the Rating from June 22 to July 5,
2018. The study covered the entire population of Ukraine aged 18 and older
representing the population by age, sex, region and type of settlement.
Some 3,200 persons took part. The margin of error of survey results does
not exceed 1.7%
