Polokwane Council Meeting delayed due to EFF disruptions
According to Review journalist, Nelie Erasmus, the EFF raised a motion to
speak in their mother tongue during the meeting, which has led to delays.

POLOKWANE – Erasmus, who is inside the council chambers at Jack Botes Hall,
says due to the EFF insisting on speaking in their mother tongue, as it is
Africa Month, the meeting was disrupted for half an hour.

According to rules during seatings of council, the language policy needs to
be finalised and translation enabled before it can be done but when the
Speaker of Council noted that, the EFF disagreed.

The second disruption came after the party wouldn’t allow the budget to be
discussed first as Mayor Nkadimeng had to attend an urgent Salga meeting.

“The arrangement to discuss the budget first was discussed and approved
during a caucus meeting prior to the council meeting,” says Erasmus.

She adds that every sentence that is being said in council is having to be
translated for the EFF.
