Exco to set clear signboard policy, says Selangor MB

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has ordered the state executive
councillor in charge of local government to conduct a detailed study on the
implementation of signboards to create a clear policy to uphold Bahasa
Melayu as the national language.

Amirudin said the issue arose when the implementation of the signboard
policy made at a state executive meeting in 2017 did not get the approval
of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and he took the stand of not pointing
fingers at anyone.
“I have reviewed the issue and the matter was not brought to the state
executive council meeting, which should have gone through DBP before being
passed by the state government.

“This issue arose in Chinese majority areas and I do not want to focus on
who should be blamed.

“So I have directed the local government executive councillor to carry out
a study so that a clear and uniform policy could be formulated to uphold
our national language,” Amirudin told reporters after the groundbreaking
ceremony of a medium cost apartment in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

On the apartment, he said it was a continuation from the Permodalan Negeri
Selangor Bhd (PNSB) project in 2004 to develop the land in Gombak district
to relocate the original residents living in longhouses at the project site.
