Save-Government-Schools campaign.
There is some movement on the Save-Government-Schools campaign. Anil
Shetty, lead campaigner of the initiative has now got a positive response
from the Department of Education (Primary and Secondary Education) who has
accepted his letter requesting to implement the State Education Policy with
few suggestions.

The letter from the secretariat shows a positive sign for this movement, as
Anil and his team have been campaigning over months across the State by
visiting schools and villages in promoting the concept of
#SaveGovernmentSchools. Recently there was also a missed call campaign by
this group who received more than 50k missed calls in support of this

Principal Secretary of Department of Education (Primary and Secondary
education) has sent a letter to Anil Shetty (a copy with BM) where the
department has praised #SaveGovernmentSchools movement and has also stated
that it will include all the suggestions given by him and his team in the
State Education Policy. Shalini Rajneesh, principal secretary to the
department said, “It is necessary for ensuring equity and reduce out of
pocket expenses for those who cannot afford expensive private sector

Anil Shetty, lead campaigner of this movement told BM, “The letter from the
principal secretary has accepted to implement the State Education Policy
drafted by Professor Kasthurirangan and they have also said that they will
take all the suggestions in the policy-making decision”

“Most importantly they have considered my point wherein the Ministry of
Education will raise ‘State Education Policy’ in the upcoming winter
assembly sessions. My next step is to write to all the MLAs and urging them
to discuss this topic in the assembly sessions,” added Shetty.

Shetty and his team has been batting for various initiatives to be brought
in the State Education policy like bringing up a language policy in the
schools, complete research on Right to Education (RTE), filling up of the
vacant faculty positions in the schools a, debating upon the State
Education Policy in the assembly sessions and also to create Model school

“I have urged the department to make one model school in every Hobli level.
That is, out of 40,000 odd schools at least 10,000 schools should be made
as a Model school. Mainly I wanted a white paperwork on RTE because we
still do not have clarity on the usage of this program and whether it is
benefitting the government and most importantly whether every needy child
is benefitted is a big question,” added Shetty.

However, Shetty also said that there are a lot of issues like clarity on
the merger of schools and budget allocation to it. He has also asked on
taking a dig at the Teacher Training Exams because out of three lakh
aspirants only 2,500 get jobs.
