There’s a ploy to demolish unity among opposition parties: ThirumavalavanTNN

Trichy: Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Sunday,
while stressing on the need for opposition parties to remain united, said
that there is a ploy to separate opposition parties in the state to
destabilize the coalition led by DMK, which is gaining strength.
Speaking at the state conference of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI)
on the political rising of the oppressed in Trichy on Sunday,
Thirumavalavan said that there are consistent efforts to separate DMK and
Congress.

Stating that there are also attempts to distance VCK from the opposition
coalition, he said only a united effort would succeed in the state.

“To be isolated in politics is a challenge especially when a political
party is branded as Muslim or dalit party primarily because of identity of
the founder. However, SDPI has overcome it by emerging as the voice of
oppressed class and women,” he said.

“Working in isolation may not be fruitful in politics for both Muslims and
dalits. There is need to work in coordination with the bigger movements
like communist parties and Congress,” he added.

He said that his party does not have any personal hatred towards BJP or RSS
but they oppose their religious stand and that is where they feel that
religious forces should not come to power again. To make sure that it does
not happen, all the opposition parties should unite in one voice, he said.

Further speaking in the conference, TNCC president S Thirunavukkarasu
called for the usage of ballot papers in election. BJP is capable of
tampering ballot machine for their gain in election, he said adding that
the urgency shown by Centre to abolish triple talaq was aimed at
prosecuting Muslim men and not the welfare of Muslim women. He said that
that there is no safety for Muslims and minorities in the country and BJP
has been trying to impose, one nation, one religion and one language
policy. BJP has cheated people of this country by not fulfilling poll
promises, he added.

Asking opposition parties to unite against the saffron party in the Centre
and corrupt government in the state, he alleged that BJP is trying to
divide the country on religious lines. During the conference, headed by
state president of SDPI, Nellai Mubarak, resolutions were passed demanding
increase in reservations for Muslims in education and employment
opportunities.
