KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) has implemented various
measures to ensure that all parties observe the regulations set out under
the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (Amendment and Extension) Act 1995 which
promotes the use of the national language.

In a statement issued yesterday, DBP said the agency had implemented
various measures to expand the use of the national language including
upholding the language policy, service, monitoring, distribution, boosting
and upgrading of the language besides strategic collaborations with the
ministries, government departments and agencies as well as the private
sector.

At the same time, DBP has also carried out Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language)
audits on the civil service as well as on-going monitoring of the language
used in the public and private sectors as well as in public places.

“In 2017 and 2018, we issued 25 reminder letters to the parties which
committed language mistakes so that the corrections can be made.

“At the same time, DBP also monitored the use of the language in
advertisements in public places, with 93,362 advertisements approved in
2017,” the statement said.

On the celebrations in conjunction with the National Language Month, DBP
said it was aware that there was little media coverage, resulting in many
people not knowing about the events.

Even so, it said last year there were 150 language and literary events held
throughout the country. — Bernama
