Hungaryʼs government has tasked ministries to come up with policy measures
to support recommendations by the National Competitiveness Council aimed at
improving Hungariansʼ foreign language skills, a resolution published in
the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows, as reported
by state news agency MTI.

The resolution mandates the ministers of human capacities, finance, and
innovation and technology, as well as the prime ministerʼs cabinet chief,
to put forward policy recommendations on the adoption and broader use of
the latest foreign language teaching methods; on incentives for using
foreign language teachers who instruct in their mother tongue; on support
for dual-language instruction; on performance-based premiums for foreign
language teachers; on promoting subtitles for foreign films; and on
establishing a network of foreign language centers.

The ministers have until the end of October to make their proposals.

The National Competitiveness Council, a body of business leaders and
experts, was established last year
