Call For Papers, “Transdisciplinary Approaches to Linguistic Diversity”
The English Department at the University of Memphis will host a graduate student conference on “Transdisciplinary Approaches to Linguistic Diversity,” April 12-13, 2024, in Memphis, Tennessee. This conference will bring scholars from diverse fields of study (including, but not limited to, linguistics, literature, rhetoric, composition, creative writing, anthropology, history, and others) to examine different theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of linguistic diversity across modalities and genres. Keynote speakers will be Kendall King (University of Memphis) and Joshua (Lokosh) Hinson (Chickasaw Nation).
Conference Topics
We are particularly interested in papers that engage with multilingual language use, minority languages, dialects, and various other forms of linguistic diversity from a variety of disciplines and perspectives.
Paper topics for consideration include:
Language policy and planning
Family language policy
Translanguaging (code-switching, style shifting)
Dialect use and/or variation
Bi- and multilingualism
Translingual writing
Writing non-standard varieties
Language(s) and identity
Linguistic diversity and art
Multilingual education

Archival research on linguistic diversity
Writing systems

Submission Guidelines
Abstracts should be no more than 300 words.
Submissions must be sent to ewfogle at memphis.edu <mailto:ewfogle at memphis.edu> by March 1, 2024.
Notifications regarding acceptance will be sent via email on or before March 15, 2024.
