   "Linguistics, Language, and the Real World: Discourse and Beyond"

                              Robin Lakoff
                             Susan Philips
                           Deborah Schiffrin
                              Ron Scollon
                            Bernard Spolsky
                             Deborah Tannen
                            G. Richard Tucker

We invite papers related to the conference theme, including but not
limited to such topics as family discourse, public discourse, narrative,
political discourse, and language policy and planning.

Individual papers will be 15 minutes long.  To propose an individual
paper, send four copies of a one-page abstract.  In the upper left-hand
corner of one copy, place the submitter's name, address, telephone,
e-mail address, and institutional affiliation.  In the upper right-hand
corner, write the topic area of the paper. The other three copies should
contain no identifying information.

ALL PROPOSALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2000. Send papers
