Actually, this is not completely accurate. The download license is
free but a personal or site license is also available. Here is what the download page says:
"Free download licence:
you are allowed to use the Praat program on any computer or computers, at
your work, at home, and in the field, provided that you do not distribute
any copies to others. You may also download future versions.
To support the development of Praat, and have your name and location
appear in your start-up screen, ask for a personal or site licence
instead."

In fact, you can use the output of one process (analysis, manipulation, or
synthesis) as the input of an other process.
There are several interesting features of the program, including the
integration of postscript drawing and printing, the scripting
capabilities, and the resynthesis functions. On the other hand, it can be
said to be slightly peculiar as to its overall operation. In fact, its
operation makes a lot of sense and its peculiarity may stem from the fact
that other packages are less logical.

> The SIL's package Speech Analyzer is also free.
Thanks for the tip. Too bad they don't have a Mac or Unix version.
