transferring audio data to CDs

I bought a minidisc after the discussion on the list last spring. The sound quality
is excellent and minidiscs don't skip. My wife has a DAT to record her playing
music, we compared the sound quality and found it to be the same. I have had some
minor technical problems which seem to be inherent to the minidisc I bought (Aiwa
AMF80). I have used my minidisc to record discourse in gamelan music instruction.
Because the gamelan is so loud a tape recorder did not pick up any discourse.
Needless to say, using minidisc gave me some data.
Has anyone out there ever taken an MD out to the field with. I plan to go to
Indonesia next summer and I am wondering if it would be worth it to bring my MD at
all.
