query on agency

A PhD candidate I am working with, Samuel Mustapha, and I have begun
thinking about the concept of agency in relation to compliments -- how
one offers, and another accepts, responsibility for the element being
complimented.
	We would be grateful for any references to works that discuss
the notion of agency or responsibility, with relation to speech acts or
linguistic actions -- either in a general way, that we can draw on, or
especially in relation to this topic.
