Here's another annecdote involving cross-cultural title adjustment. I
recall my parents talking about an international conference involving both
American and German astrophysicisits (this was about 20 years ago). At that
time it was common for American academics to use mutual FN. When the
Germans spoke in German to each other, they used Title + LN, but when they
spoke English, they used FN for everyone-- including other Germans.
