The Black Diaspora in Narratives of Human Agency and Resistance: Exploring
Dialectics of Faith--Honoring the Legacy of Ida B. Wells-Barnett
The conference will be held on February 18, 2005 at Luther College in
Decorah, Iowa and is open to faculty, students and interested individuals.
The conferences focuses on participants working in the Midwest but it is
open to any scholars and students engaged in black Diaspora studies in
history, journalism, literature, culture studies, women's studies, African
studies, music and or film.
The conference explores the narratives of the black Diaspora through voices
of individual and collective resistance to social, political, cultural and
economic domination. Black Narratives will be explored as literary,
musical, and activist forms of resistance that intersect faith and social
action. The conference honors the legacy of Ida B. Wells-Barnett, whose
narratives of resistance and social action served as a foundation for the
modern Civil Rights movement in the United States.
