What is the regional distribution of the interdental TH? And perhaps with
its recent history? Where I grew up in the South the tongue was never
visible. When I lived in Chicago in the 1950s, the lay opinion seemed to be
that the visible tongue was a California thing. I must have been brain-dead
(or maybe tongue-tied) in NYC and Florida because I don’t recall noticing
the tongue (or maybe if I didn’t notice anything that suggests that the
tongue was not visible). Nowadays here in the Midwest I tend to see tongues
everywhere. Does any have some knowledge of this off the top of their head
– or perhaps on the tip of your tongue. Robert.
