A few chapters that discuss literacy and writing are fond in two books edited by Marcia Farr:
Ethnolinguistic Chicago: Language and Literacy in the City’s Neighborhoods (2004), and 	
Latino Language and Literacy in Ethnolinguistic Chicago, 
both published by Erlbaum.

The anthropology of literacy is one of my research
areas...This is a partial listing of some sources. The
Prinsloo volume has a chapter on literacy brokers. F. Niyi
Akinnaso is another source.  The Kalman book will have
additional sources.
