  Faculty position: Islamic Studies

Northern Arizona University seeks a scholar of Islamic Studies for a 
shared appointment as tenure-track assistant professor of religious 
studies and anthropology. Requirements of the appointment include 
ability to teach undergraduate courses for both the Religious Studies 
Program in the Department of Humanities, Arts & Religion, and the 
Anthropology Department. For Religious Studies, ability to teach an 
undergraduate survey of the religious tradition of Islam is a 
requirement. It is expected that the successful candidate will also 
contribute other courses to both Religious Studies and Anthropology in 
the candidate’s areas of expertise, and will participate in the 
Anthropology M.A. program, as well as contributing to the missions of 
the departments, the College of Arts & Letters, the College of Social & 
Behavioral Sciences, and the University. Teaching responsibilities (5 
courses per year) will be divided between Religious Studies and 
Anthropology. An active program of research and publication in relevant 
areas is expected. International applications are encouraged.

Ph.D. completed by August 17, 2009, in Religious Studies or Anthropology
(or a closely related field) with a focus on Islamic Studies is
