The Center for Language Acquisition is pleased to announce an upcoming
workshop:

*Preserving Personhood Through Better Communication*

*April 29-May 1, 2011*



This three-day workshop will focus on the relationship between language use,
cognitive function, and the maintenance of selfhood among patients suffering
from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. It will include research
presentations from key researchers in clinical linguistics, applied
linguistics, and linguistic anthropology focusing on:



·      How dementia affects the production and comprehension of language

·      How the interactional ‘positioning’ of patients with dementia and
Alzheimer’s disease can foster empowerment—or depersonalization

·      How patients’ communication patterns and abilities change with
increasing dementia

·      How best to achieve meaningful communication with Alzheimer’s
patients

Sunday, May 1:  8 a.m.-12 p.m.
