Dear All,

In August, I will be "on loan" from Rutgers to the National Science
Foundation to take on a temporary (one- to four-year) Rotator position
as a Program Officer alongside Deborah Winslow in the Cultural
Anthropology program. The deans here have approved a one-year position
to fill in for me in 2011 - 2012, so we would like to find someone as
soon as possible. Please see the job announcement pasted in below and
circulate widely. (Apologies for cross-listing!)

Thanks!

Laura

*One-Year Position in Language, Culture, and Power at Rutgers University*

The Department of Anthropology at Rutgers, the State University of New
Jersey, invites applications for a one-year position in linguistic
anthropology in 2011 -- 2012, contingent on funding. The position
involves teaching a large Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology
undergraduate course each semester, two additional courses in linguistic
or cultural anthropology, and possibly the required graduate core
course, Language as Social Action. The ideal candidate will strengthen
the Department's Critical Interventions in Theory and Ethnography (CITE)
Program, which places special emphasis on the study of culture,
inequality, justice, and rights in a world transformed by global processes.

Candidates holding the Ph.D. are preferred, but in exceptional cases,
ABDs will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in
teaching, creative scholarship, and ongoing field research. Application
materials should include a curriculum vitae, a statement of research and
teaching interests, including syllabi or descriptions for Introduction
to Linguistic Anthropology and Language as Social Action, evidence of
excellence in teaching, and the names and contact information of three
references. Send materials electronically to Laura Ahearn at
ahearn at rutgers.edu, and place "Language, Culture, and Power" in the
subject heading. Review of applications will begin immediately and will
continue until the position is filled.

As one of 34 public US institutions that belong to the Association of
American Universities, Rutgers is among the leading research
universities in the US and Canada. Rutgers University is an equal
opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, with a historic commitment to
diversity.
